Fibromyalgia
Many people and physicians use the term fibromyalgia to describe just about
any long lasting pain that is not easily treated. Dr. Penniston discourages
this as it adds confusion to an already complex condition. This practice
would be similar to calling every patient that has longstanding fatigue an
iron deficiency problem. This is convenient and easy to do but not likely
accurate. Likewise, there are many, many problems that cause chronic pain
and until these problems have been ruled out it is most likely inaccurate to
call the problem fibromyalgia. Few physicians have the experience and
knowledge to accurately diagnose fibromyalgia let alone treat it. Partly as
a result of having fibromyalgia himself and partly as a result of treating
thousands of patients with chronic pain (some with and some without
fibromyalgia) for over 25 years, Dr. Penniston has developed effective
techniques to diagnose and treat this condition.
Because of his successes treating fibromyalgia, Dr. Penniston has written a
book on this subject for both physicians and patients called, Fibromyalgia,
Chronic Fatigue and Irritable Bowel: Treating Symptoms Treating Cause. He
also has a website devoted specifically to Fibromyalgia and the closely
related conditions: chronic fatigue, irritable bowel, Ehlers-Danlos
Syndrome, interstitial cystitis, multiple chemical sensitivity, neurally
mediated hypotension, restless legs syndrome and vulvodynia/pelvic pain
syndromes. If you would like more information on this topic go to
