What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a structurally based form of health care conceived of and developed in North America. The basic premise of chiropractic is that bony misalignments of the vertebra and other joints of the body can create joint disturbances and disrupt normal nerve function leading to pain and other health problems. The classic form of treatment in chiropractic is the vertebral adjustment. Adjustments can take many forms, from manipulation, to light pressure or tapping with an adjusting instrument to lying on small foam wedges that apply pressure to specific bones.

Chiropractors know that adjustments often help to relieve neck, back and joint pain, but they also recognize that proper vertebral alignment is important for optimal health and well being of a person in a general sense.

In addition, some chiropractic techniques have noted that not only can misalignments cause body and organ malfunction, but organ and glandular malfunction can cause structural imbalances. One of the chiropractic techniques that can monitor and often correct these problems is Applied Kinesiology. AK is unique in that it is extremely helpful in finding muscle malfunction, joint misalignment, and stress in organs and glands and is then able to track down the source of the malfunction. Although AK was developed primarily by chiropractors, all health care providers with the proper training can effectively use it.
